Job Description

Do you have experience in supply chain management? A steel processing company on the Northeast side of San Antonio is looking for a Purchasing Assistant to join their growing team! The Purchasing Assistant receives and reviews purchase requisitions for materials and services, coordinating the timely processing and delivery of material from processor to customer: both internal and external. Manages core processors, ensuring transactions are managed in a seamless process from order entry through invoice payment.

  • Generate and track purchase orders to vendors. 
  • Monitor vendor delivery schedules
  • Sends requests for quotes to vendors for existing and new items. 
  • Search and qualify new vendors
  • Reviews requirements needed by operations and other departments, creates purchase orders for finished goods, components, materials and supplies as needed. 
  • Input and maintain accurate data to ensure system integrity and the ability to track open orders
  • Expedites and coordinates the delivery and receipt of inbound material. 
  • Finds alternative sources when critical materials will arrive late. 
  • Order supplies as needed (lumber, vinyl, cores, strapping) and negotiate prices with vendors. 
  • Monitors inventory of all MRO's 
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Any other tasks assigned.
  • Pass drug test and background check
  • Attention to detail
  • Time-management, prioritization, and organizational skills 
  • Basic knowledge of business principles and processes and office protocol
  • Microsoft Operating System and Office Applications, including strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; 
  • Self-motivated and pro-active
  • Highly effective and persuasive communication skills
  • Vendor relations management skills
  • Associates degree and /or sufficient related work experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of purchasing procedures
  • 1-3 years previous experience in purchasing
  • 8AM - 5PM 
Pay Rate: 
  • $20-$22/hour
  • San Antonio, 78244
