Position Description:

Ensure that company safety programs comply with Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements and standards. Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the design of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment. This position requires following all ISO 14001 standards and requires compliance with quality standards at all times. All employees are responsible for wearing all the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary for the tasks they are performing and/or the location of the building they are located in.  All employees are required to perform any job, task, or duty assigned to them, whether or not it is directly related to their specific job title.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Devise and implement safety and health programs to prevent, correct, and/or control unsafe environmental conditions.

Lead the review and evaluation, along with plant and manufacturing management, of new and existing operations, to identify and resolve any safety and environmental issues in manufacturing operations. 

Eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and/or property damage.

Must apply professional industrial safety methods, and techniques; safety-related elements of the physical sciences, environmental, ergonomics, psychology and physiology; and safety principles, standards, practices and analytical techniques.

Conduct safety audits and advise management on safety issues observed. Develop and apply methods for the safe application of installation of equipment, maintenance, etc. Administer protective equipment or safety devices for machines and redesign machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards; and/or review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency with accepted OSHA principles and practices and recommend changes as needed.

Train employees on OSHA regulations such as forklifts, lock-out-tag-out, Blood Borne Pathogens, right-to-know (GHS & HAZCOM), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and laser safety.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • 4-year college degree in Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering, Safety or Environmental Science,
  • Or at least 3 to 5 years related experience, in manufacturing environment
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Etc.)
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures associated with compliance with local, state and federal environmental and safety, safety audits, documentation and remedial follow-up and procedures as defined by Federal, State and Local authorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead / interact with employee teams.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Sound judgment in decision making and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to travel to other company locations on an as-needed basis.
  • Proactive and oriented to make improvements in systems and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills including, managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
